Sri Lanka Galle, Tourism Plastic Waste, Anti-Clogging plastic pelletizing machine Success Case

Background: Mr. Kasun Perera, a 32-year-old with a high school education, started his plastic recycling business in 2023 in Galle’s Unawatuna area—a popular tourist destination known for its beaches and historic fort. His 550-square-meter small workshop employs 6 workers, focusing on processing tourism plastic waste (water bottles, food containers, plastic bags) collected from hotels, beaches, and tourist sites. Galle attracts over 2 million tourists annually, generating 4 tons of plastic waste daily—much of this waste ends up in the Indian Ocean, harming marine life and violating Sri Lanka’s Tourism Environmental Protection Act. As a local resident, Kasun wanted to protect Galle’s natural beauty while building a profitable business. He sought an anti-clogging plastic pelletizing machine to handle tourism waste, which contains high levels of impurities (sand, food residue). An anti-clogging plastic equipment , a reliable plastic equipment  for tourism waste, was essential to avoid frequent downtime.

The Challenge

Mr. Kasun faced three main challenges. First, tourism plastic waste had a high impurity content (up to 10%), including sand, food residue, and paper, which caused frequent clogging of the traditional plastic pelletizing machine he initially used. The equipment shut down 4-5 times a day, reducing daily operation time to just 6 hours and causing costly delays. Second, the waste varied in size (from small water bottles to large food containers), leading to uneven feeding and low processing efficiency (200kg/h), with a qualification rate of only 72%. Third, Galle’s tourist season (December-March) brings a surge in plastic waste, requiring the plastic equipment  to operate 12 hours a day—traditional models could not handle the continuous workload, leading to frequent breakdowns. Local plastic equipment  suppliers offered no after-sales support, making it difficult to resolve issues quickly during peak season.

The Solution

We provided Mr. Kasun with a TL-310 anti-clogging plastic pelletizing machine, customized for Galle’s tourism plastic waste and peak season demands—tailored for Sri Lanka’s coastal tourist areas. The specific configuration of this plastic equipment  includes:

  • Special feeding hopper with a multi-layer filter screen, which removes large impurities (sand, paper) before processing, preventing clogging and reducing downtime for the plastic equipment .
  • Specialized anti-clogging screw with a spiral design, capable of processing tourism plastic waste with up to 12% impurity content without shutdowns using the plastic equipment .
  • Adjustable feeding system, adapting to different-sized waste plastics and ensuring smooth feeding even during peak season with the plastic pelletizing machine.
  • High-durability blades and wear-resistant components, designed for 12-hour continuous operation, reducing breakdowns during tourist season with theplastic equipment .
  • 24/7 online technical support and on-site maintenance within 36 hours in Galle, plus a 1-year warranty to ensure seamless operation during peak season for the plastic equipment .

The Results

After 3 months of operation, the plastic pelletizing machine completely solved Mr. Kasun’s challenges. Clogging was eliminated entirely, and daily operation time increased from 6 hours to 12 hours with the plastic equipment . The processing efficiency of the plastic equipment  surged from 200kg/h to 450kg/h—a 125% improvement—allowing him to process 5.4 tons of tourism plastic waste daily, even during peak season. The qualification rate rose to 98%, with particles suitable for low-grade packaging and construction materials. Mr. Kasun signed supply contracts with 2 local hotels for waste collection and 1 plastic product factory for particle sales, increasing his monthly income by 85% (from 90,000 LKR to 1.665 lakh LKR). “This plastic pelletizing machine is clog-free and durable—it handles peak season waste effortlessly and requires minimal maintenance,” Mr. Kasun said. His business was also recognized by the Galle Tourism Board for reducing beach pollution.
